Remember that possibly-sinister tunnel under Toronto’s Pan Am Games site? Well, about that: It was not terrorists. Or Drake. It was a 22-year-old named Elton McDonald, who built the tunnel with the sinister purpose of seeing if he could build a big damn tunnel.“It was just something I always wanted to do,” McDonald told the Canadian press, the most humbly Canadian thing someone has ever said about a hole in the ground that scared the hell out of police. The 33-foot tunnel took McDonald two years to build and was a work in progress when discovered. He planned on creating an entire den down there, including an eventual TV room and apparently a barbecue pit (we hope he made plans for ventilation). So relax: This was just somebody’s man cave, and not an attempt to sabotage the Pan Am Games.Source: CBCJohn WenzWriterJohn Wenz is a Popular Mechanics writer and space obsessive based in Philadelphia.
