Over the weekend, Lockheed Martin launched the USS Little Rock, the Navy’s ninth littoral combat ship (a smallish ship, designed for combat close to shore). And with its launch came a big ol’ splash. While “ninth littoral combat ship” might not sound like a huge distinction, the USS Little Rock is a ship with a heritage. As Foxtrot Alpha points out, its predecessor was a light cruiser that served valiantly in WWII before being decommissioned and then recommissioned for service as a guided missile cruiser. Today, it sits in a museum in Buffalo, leaving the new Little Rock with a big bow to fill. Its inaugural splash into the Menominee River in Wisconsin here is probably a good start.View full post on YoutubeOf course while that giant splash definitely looks a little scary—like Little Rock might actually be in danger of tipping over—slide launches like this are done all the time. They always look harrowing, but they’re almost always just fine: View full post on YoutubeOf course, every now and then you run into a little trouble:View full post on YoutubeBut the Little Rock looks like she’s doing just fine.Source: U.S. Navy
